Ring Out, Wild Bells-Lord Tennyson
RING OUT, WILD BELLS
Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
The flying cloud, the frosty light:
The year is dying in the night;
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.
Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.
LORD TENNYSON
Summary: 'Ring Out, Wild Bells' is a poem by Lord Tennyson that reflects on the passing of time and the arrival of a new year. The speaker calls on the bells to ring out to the wild sky, to mark the end of the current year and to let it die. He urges the bells to ring in the new year, with happiness and joy, and to let go of the false things of the past and embrace the truth of the future. The poem uses ringing bells as a metaphor for the passing of time and the cycle of life, urging readers to reflect on the year that has passed and to look forward to the opportunities that the new year will bring.
